Well, we’ve gone and done it. We are, as of July 15th, proud owners of 80 acres in British Columbia, about 15 to 20 minutes north of Dawson Creek. No house, no buildings of any sort. Just trees, grass, a dugout, and our very own waterfall (so they say!), although there was no falling water when we visited. Now comes the inevitable stress of building a house and deciding whether we want to maintain two mortgages and stay in our current home during construction, or move closer so we can enroll the boys in school there and pay rent for the interim. Decisions, decisions, decisions. They are not my forte!

This is the hill on which we’d like to build.

Imagine our surprise when we came across this in the middle of the bush! Apparently, this is our waterfall. I had imagined something less … well, less grand, I guess. I was thinking many little rocks and here was one big bedrock cliff. So cool!

A little glimpse into my sewing/freezer/laundry room. As you can see, I am doing some quilting, albeit not very quickly. Not that this pattern/method isn’t easy – it is. The reversible quilt is fun to do and I love the way it can come together in different ways. You can see the fabric for the reverse side of the quilt in strips on my deep freeze. I’ve got a musical note theme going on throughout. If I put my mind to it, I’m sure I could finish it up in a few days, but there’s always something else going on or a task that is more important. Take today, for instance. I’m planning on making some strawberry jam after a trip to the Farmer’s Market, cleaning out Titus’ room, and removing the border from his walls. We are finally getting rid of the pale green and yellow atrocity of a paint job and replacing it with something neutral – white. Where does that leave room for quilting? It doesn’t. Rather frustrating!

After sending the two older boys to camp last week, we visited some friends at their cabin. It was a nice, laid-back weekend with a lot of tubing, barbecuing, visiting, and fireworks. I found out that little girls are very aggressive when it comes to little boys, and was on constant boy/girl watch. I know I was crazy about boys at a young age, but I don’t ever remember fighting over them or having to be in constant contact. Wow! Makes one wonder what goes on at school…

The first night we got there was gorgeous. We took a boat ride to the far end of the lake and enjoyed the sunset after getting the boys toweled off.

Saw some weird birds nesting in dead trees. The local forestry guy (whom we knew from Rainbow Lake) told us the name but I can barely remember the names of the people I meet, much less bird names. Started with a “k” or “c” but that’s all I’ve got. Look at all those nests. I think I counted seven or so in the one tree alone!

Yep, a fun weekend all in all. Even got some knitting done! What more could a girl want?!
